The Prophet ﷺ appointed Ibn Umm Maktum to lead the people in prayer, and he was blind.
حدثنا محمد بن عبد الرحمن العنبري أبو عبد الله حدثنا ابن مهدي حدثنا عمران القطان عن قتادة
أن النبي ﷺ استخلف ابن أم مكتوم يؤم الناس وهو أعمى
[Sahih] Ahmad reported it, 3/132, from the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi through this route. The hadith has many corroborating narrations in Ibn Hibban, no. 370, and elsewhere. See also nos. 553, 535, and the one coming up, no. 2931.
