During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the call to prayer was given twice for each phrase, while the iqamah was given once for each phrase, except that the muezzin would say, "The prayer is about to begin, the prayer is about to begin." When we heard the iqamah, we would perform ablution and then go out to the prayer.Shuba said, "I did not hear from Abu Jafar any hadith other than this one."
Graded sahih. Nasai reported it in the chapter on adhan, the section on doubling the adhan, hadith no. 629, from the hadith of Shuba with this chain. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith no. 374, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith nos. 290 and 291, and Hakim, 1/197, 198, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Its chain is hasan, and it has a sahih corroborating witness in Abu Awana, 1/329, and Daraqutni, 1/239, and others.
