The Prophet ﷺ confided something to him privately, telling him, "When you finish the Maghrib prayer, say seven times, 'O Allah, protect me from the Fire.' For if you say that and then die during that night, protection from it will be recorded for you. And when you have prayed the dawn prayer, say the same, for if you die during that day, protection from it will be recorded for you."Abu Saeed informed me that Harith said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ confided this to us privately, so we reserve it for our brothers."He said that these words are to be said in both cases before speaking to anyone.Ali bin Sahl said in his version that his father narrated it to him. Ali and Ibn Musaffa reported, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us out on a raiding party. When we reached the place of the raid, I urged my horse on and outstripped my companions. The clan met me with shrieks of alarm, so I said to them, 'Say, there is no god but Allah alone, and you will be safe.' They said it. My companions blamed me and said, 'You have deprived us of the spoils.' When we came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they told him what I had done. He called me, commended what I had done, and said, 'Allah has recorded for you such-and-such a reward for every one of those people.'"Abdul-Rahman said, "I have forgotten what the reward was."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I shall write for you a testament of recommendation to take effect after me."He said, "He did so, sealed it, handed it to me, and said to me..." and then he mentioned the same meaning as their version.Ibn Musaffa said, "I heard Harith bin Muslim bin Harith Tamimi narrating from his father."
حدثنا عمرو بن عثمان الحمصي ومؤمل بن الفضل الحراني وعلي بن سهل الرملي ومحمد بن المصفى الحمصي قالوا حدثنا الوليد حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن حسان الكناني قال حدثني مسلم بن الحارث بن مسلم التميمي عن أبيه أن النبي ﷺ قال نحوه إلى قوله جوار منها إلا أنه قال فيهما قبل أن يكلم أحدا قال علي بن سهل فيه إن أباه حدثه وقال علي وابن المصفى بعثنا رسول الله ﷺ في سرية فلما بلغنا المغار استحثثت فرسي فسبقت أصحابي وتلقاني الحي بالرنين فقلت لهم قولوا لا إله إلا الله وحده تحرزوا فقالوها فلامني أصحابي وقالوا حرمتنا الغنيمة فلما قدمنا على رسول الله ﷺ أخبروه بالذي صنعت فدعاني فحسن لي ما صنعت وقال أما إن الله قد كتب لك من كل إنسان منهم كذا وكذا قال عبد الرحمن فأنا نسيت الثواب ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ أما إني سأكتب لك بالوصاة بعدي قال ففعل وختم عليه فدفعه إلي وقال لي ثم ذكر معناهم وقال ابن المصفى قال سمعت الحارث بن مسلم بن الحارث التميمي يحدث عن أبيه
