Two men sneezed in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ. He invoked a blessing upon one of them and left the other.Someone asked, "Messenger of Allah, two men sneezed, and you blessed one of them," (Ahmad's wording was, "you invoked a blessing upon one of them and left the other,") "why?"He replied, "This one praised Allah, while the other did not praise Allah."
حدثنا أحمد بن يونس حدثنا زهير ح و حدثنا محمد بن كثير أخبرنا سفيان المعنى قالا حدثنا سليمان التيمي
عطس رجلان عند النبي ﷺ فشمت أحدهما وترك الآخر قال فقيل يا رسول الله رجلان عطسا فشمت أحدهما قال أحمد أو فسمت أحدهما وتركت الآخر فقال إن هذا حمد الله وإن هذا لم يحمد الله
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners, in the chapter on praise for the one who sneezes, hadith no. 6221, from Muhammad bin Kathir Abdi, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Asceticism, in the chapter on responding to the one who sneezes and the dislike of yawning, hadith no. 2991, from the hadith of Sulayman Taymi, with the same chain.
