I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Woe to the one who tells a story and lies in order to make people laugh. Woe to him, woe to him."
حدثنا مسدد بن مسرهد حدثنا يحيى
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ويل للذي يحدث فيكذب ليضحك به القوم ويل له ويل له
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Tirmidhi reported it, in Zuhd, chapter on what has been said about someone who speaks a word to make people laugh, hadith no. 2315, from the hadith of Yahya Qattan through this chain, and he said, "Hasan."
