The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is not lawful for a Muslim to shun his brother for more than three days, such that when they meet, this one turns away and that one turns away. The better of the two is the one who initiates the greeting of peace."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners, Chapter on Estrangement, hadith no. 6077, from Abdullah bin Maslama Qanabi, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Kindness and Maintaining Ties, Chapter on the Prohibition of Estrangement Beyond Three Days, hadith no. 2560, from the hadith of Malik through this same chain. It is also found in Muwatta (the version of Yahya), 2/906–907.
