The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Part of revering Allah is honoring an elderly Muslim with grey hair, honoring one who carries the Quran without going to extremes in it or turning away from it, and honoring a just ruler."
حدثنا إسحق بن إبراهيم الصواف حدثنا عبد الله بن حمران أخبرنا عوف بن أبي جميلة عن زياد بن مخراق عن أبي كنانة
قال رسول الله ﷺ إن من إجلال الله إكرام ذي الشيبة المسلم وحامل القرآن غير الغالي فيه والجافي عنه وإكرام ذي السلطان المقسط
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Bayhaqi narrated it in 8/163 from the hadith of Abu Dawud, and Nawawi graded it hasan in Riyad al-Saliheen, no. 355, as did Ibn Hajar in Talkhis Habir, 2/118. Abu Kinanah is unknown, and yet Nawawi graded it hasan. This is a strange thing.
