The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Modesty is entirely good," or he said, "All of modesty is good."Bashir bin Kaab said, "We find in some of the books that part of it brings tranquility and dignity, and part of it is weakness."Imran repeated the hadith, and Bashir repeated his comment. Imran became so angry that his eyes turned red, and he said, "Do you not see that I am narrating to you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while you talk back to me from your books?"We said, "Abu Nujayd, go on, go on."
حدثنا سليمان بن حرب حدثنا حماد عن إسحق بن سويد عن أبي قتادة قال كنا مع عمران بن حصين وثم بشير بن كعب
قال رسول الله ﷺ الحياء خير كله أو قال الحياء كله خير فقال بشير بن كعب إنا نجد في بعض الكتب أن منه سكينة ووقارا ومنه ضعفا فأعاد عمران الحديث وأعاد بشير الكلام قال فغضب عمران حتى احمرت عيناه وقال ألا أراني أحدثك عن رسول الله ﷺ وتحدثني عن كتبك قال قلنا يا أبا نجيد إيه إيه
Reported by Muslim, Faith, chapter on explaining the number of the branches of faith and the best of them, hadith no. 37, from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd with this wording, and its basis is found in Bukhari, hadith no. 6117, from the hadith of Imran with this wording.
