The value of the blood-money during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was eight hundred Dinars, or eight thousand Dirhams, and the blood-money for the People of the Book at that time was half the blood-money of the Muslims. He said, This remained the case until Umar, may Allah have mercy on him, became caliph. He stood up to deliver a sermon and said, "Indeed, camels have become expensive."So Umar fixed the blood-money at one thousand Dinars for those who deal in gold, twelve thousand for those who deal in silver, two hundred cows for those who own cattle, two thousand sheep for those who own sheep, and two hundred garments for those who deal in garments. He said, But he left the blood-money of the protected non-Muslims as it was and did not raise it along with the increase he made to the blood-money.
