Nafi reported,

Abdullah bin Umar reported that during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the mosque was built with mud bricks and palm branches. Mujahid said its pillars were of palm wood.Abu Bakr added nothing to it. Umar expanded it and rebuilt it according to its construction during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, with mud bricks and palm branches, and he replaced its pillars. Mujahid said its pillars were of wood. Then Uthman changed it and made considerable additions. He built its walls with engraved stones and gypsum, made its pillars of engraved stones, and roofed it with teak. Mujahid said its roof was teak.
