He said, "We were at sea with Busr bin Artah when a thief named Misdar was brought before him, having stolen a Bactrian camel. Busr said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, Hands are not to be cut off during a military expedition. Were it not for that, I would have cut off his hand.'"
حدثنا أحمد بن صالح حدثنا ابن وهب أخبرني حيوة بن شريح عن عياش بن عباس القتباني عن شييم بن بيتان ويزيد بن صبح الأصبحي
قال كنا مع بسر بن أرطاة في البحر فأتي بسارق يقال له مصدر قد سرق بختية فقال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول لا تقطع الأيدي في السفر ولولا ذلك لقطعته
Its isnad is sahih. Tirmidhi narrated it in the Hudud, chapter on what has been mentioned that hands are not to be cut off during a military campaign, hadith 1450, from the hadith of Ayyash bin Abbas through the same route, and he said, "Gharib."
