The Prophet ﷺ would impose the amputation penalty for theft of a quarter of a Dinar or more.
حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن حنبل حدثنا سفيان عن الزهري قال سمعته منه عن عمرة
أن النبي ﷺ كان يقطع في ربع دينار فصاعدا
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hudud, chapter "The Punishment for Theft and Its Minimum Threshold," Hadith 1684, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Hudud, chapter "The Statement of Allah Almighty, 'As for the male thief and the female thief, cut off their hands...' etc.," Hadith 6789, from the hadith of Zuhri through the same chain. It is also found in Musnad Ahmad, 6/36.
