Abu Qatada reported,

The horseman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched the Army of the Commanders," and he related this story. He said, "Nothing woke us except the sun, which had already risen. We got up alarmed about our prayer."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Slowly, slowly."When the sun had risen high, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever among you used to perform the two rak'ahs of Fajr, let him perform them now."So those who used to perform them stood and prayed them, as did those who had not been in the habit of performing them. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that the call to prayer be made, so it was called. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then stood and led us in prayer.When he finished, he said, "Indeed, we praise Allah that we were not occupied with any worldly matter that distracted us from our prayer. Rather, our souls were in the hand of Allah , and He released them whenever He willed. So whoever among you, in good condition, catches the morning prayer tomorrow, let him make up alongside it the like of it."

حدثنا علي بن نصر حدثنا وهب بن جرير حدثنا الأسود بن شيبان حدثنا خالد بن سمير قال قدم علينا عبد الله بن رباح الأنصاري من المدينة وكانت الأنصار تفقهه فحدثنا قال

حدثني أبو قتادة الأنصاري

فارس رسول الله ﷺ قال بعث رسول الله ﷺ جيش الأمراء بهذه القصة قال فلم توقظنا إلا الشمس طالعة فقمنا وهلين لصلاتنا فقال النبي ﷺ رويدا رويدا حتى إذا تعالت الشمس قال رسول الله ﷺ من كان منكم يركع ركعتي الفجر فليركعهما فقام من كان يركعهما ومن لم يكن يركعهما فركعهما ثم أمر رسول الله ﷺ أن ينادى بالصلاة فنودي بها فقام رسول الله ﷺ فصلى بنا فلما انصرف قال ألا إنا نحمد الله أنا لم نكن في شيء من أمور الدنيا يشغلنا عن صلاتنا ولكن أرواحنا كانت بيد الله عز وجل فأرسلها أنى شاء فمن أدرك منكم صلاة الغداة من غد صالحا فليقض معها مثلها
