Concerning this verse, "Take care of your own souls" [Maidah 5:105], he said, "By Allah, you have asked one who knows about it. I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it, and he said, 'No, enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, until you see greed obeyed, desires followed, worldly things preferred, and every opinionated person delighted with his own opinion. Then take care of yourself and leave the common people alone, for ahead of you lie days of patience. Patience in those days will be like gripping a hot coal. Whoever acts rightly then will have the reward of fifty men who act as he does.'"Another narrator added to me that the man asked, "Messenger of Allah, the reward of fifty of them?"He replied, "The reward of fifty of you."

في هذه الآية {عليكم أنفسكم} قال أما والله لقد سألت عنها خبيرا سألت عنها رسول الله ﷺ فقال بل ائتمروا بالمعروف وتناهوا عن المنكر حتى إذا رأيت شحا مطاعا وهوى متبعا ودنيا مؤثرة وإعجاب كل ذي رأي برأيه فعليك يعني بنفسك ودع عنك العوام فإن من ورائكم أيام الصبر الصبر فيه مثل قبض على الجمر للعامل فيهم مثل أجر خمسين رجلا يعملون مثل عمله وزادني غيره قال يا رسول الله أجر خمسين منهم قال أجر خمسين منكم
Its chain of transmission is hasan. Tirmidhi collected it in the tafsir of the Quran, chapter on Surah Maidah, hadith 3058, from the hadith of Abdullah bin Mubarak with this chain, and he said, hasan gharib. Ibn Majah also narrated it, hadith 4014, and Hakim graded it sahih, 4/322, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
