I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "There is no man among a people who commits sins in their midst, while they are able to stop him but do not, except that Allah will strike them with a punishment before they die."
حدثنا مسدد حدثنا أبو الأحوص حدثنا أبو إسحق أظنه عن ابن جرير
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول ما من رجل يكون في قوم يعمل فيهم بالمعاصي يقدرون على أن يغيروا عليه فلا يغيروا إلا أصابهم الله بعذاب من قبل أن يموتوا

[Its chain is daif] Bayhaqi narrated it: 10/91, from Shubah, from Abu Ishaq, from Ubaydullah bin Jareer, from his father, etc., without any doubt, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith no. 1839, 1840 Ubaydullah bin Jareer is of unknown status, and no one other than Ibn Hibban confirmed his reliability. The hadith has daif corroborating narrations found in Abdul-Ghani bin Abdul-Wahid Maqdisi's Al-Amr bil-Maruf wan-Nahi anil-Munkar, hadith no. 20, 21, and elsewhere.
