The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The first decline that entered upon the Children of Israil was this. A man would meet another and say, 'You there, fear Allah and give up what you are doing, for it is not lawful for you.' Then he would meet him the next day, and that would not stop him from eating with him, drinking with him, and sitting with him. When they did that, Allah struck the hearts of some of them against others."Then he recited, "Cursed were those who disbelieved among the Children of Israil by the tongue of Dawud and of Isa, the son of Maryam" [Maidah 5:78], up to His words, "rebellious" [Maidah 5:81].Then he said, "No indeed, by Allah, you shall enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and you shall seize the hand of the wrongdoer and bend him firmly toward the truth and confine him strictly to the truth."
[Its chain of transmission is daif] Tirmidhi transmitted it in tafsir of the Quran, chapter "From Surah Maidah," no. 3047, and Ibn Majah, no. 4006, from the hadith of Ali bin Buzayma, narrated through him. The chain is disconnected, as mentioned previously at 1244.
