Umar bin Ata reported,

He heard Yahya bin Yamar relating from a man who informed him on the authority of Ammar bin Yasir. Umar claimed that Yahya named that man, but Umar forgot his name. Ammar said, "I anointed myself in connection with this incident."The first version is much more complete and contains mention of the ritual washing.I said to Umar, "Were they in a state of ihram?"He replied, "No, the people were residing in their settled state."
