The letter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was read out to us in the land of Juhaynah while I was a young boy, stating that you are not to make use of any part of a dead animal, neither its skin nor its sinews.
حدثنا حفص بن عمر حدثنا شعبة عن الحكم عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى
قرئ علينا كتاب رسول الله ﷺ بأرض جهينة وأنا غلام شاب أن لا تستمتعوا من الميتة بإهاب ولا عصب
Hasan. It was narrated by Ibn Majah, in the chapter on clothing, under the heading "Those who said no benefit may be taken from the skin or sinew of a dead animal," no. 3613, and by Nasai, no. 4254, through the narration of Shuba, and by Tirmidhi, no. 1729, through the narration of Hakam bin Utayba, with the same wording. He explicitly stated that he heard it directly, as recorded by Ahmad, 311/4. Qasim bin Mukhaymara and Hilal Wazzan also narrated it from Abdullah bin Ukaym, with the same wording. Tirmidhi and Bayhaqi, 18/1, graded it hasan. The hadith has supporting narrations.
