The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, during the expedition of Tabuk, came upon a household where he saw a waterskin hanging. He asked for water, and they said, "Messenger of Allah, it is from a dead animal."He replied, "Its tanning is its purification."
حدثنا حفص بن عمر وموسى بن إسمعيل قالا حدثنا همام عن قتادة عن الحسن عن جون بن قتادة
أن رسول الله ﷺ في غزوة تبوك أتى على بيت فإذا قربة معلقة فسأل الماء فقالوا يا رسول الله إنها ميتة فقال دباغها طهورها
Its chain is daif. Chapter of the skins of dead animals, no. 4248, from the hadith of Qatada, and it was also narrated by Shuba from him. Ibn Hajar graded it sahih in Talkhis Habir 1/49, as did Hakim 4/141, and Dhahabi agreed with him. The hadith has corroborating narrations. Hasan Basri used an ambiguous form of transmission, and the preceding hadith, no. 4123, suffices in its place.
