The Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted the Mothers of the Believers to lengthen their hems by a handspan. They then asked him for more, so he added another handspan for them. They used to send word to us, and we would measure out a cubit for them.
حدثنا مسدد حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن سفيان أخبرني زيد العمي عن أبي الصديق الناجي
رخص رسول الله ﷺ لأمهات المؤمنين في الذيل شبرا ثم استزدنه فزادهن شبرا فكن يرسلن إلينا فنذرع لهن ذراعا
[Its chain is daif] See number 4117. Ibn Majah also narrated it in the book of Clothing, chapter on how long a woman's train should be, number 3581, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri, through the same route. Zayd Ammi is daif, and the hadith of Abu Dawud, number 4117, suffices in its place.
