The Prophet ﷺ did not draw bad omens from anything. Whenever he sent out an official, he would ask about his name, and if the name pleased him, he would be delighted and the joy of it would be visible on his face. If he disliked the name, the dislike would be visible on his face. When he entered a town, he would ask about its name, and if the name pleased him, he would be glad and the joy of it would be visible on his face. If he disliked its name, the dislike would be visible on his face.
حدثنا مسلم بن إبراهيم حدثنا هشام عن قتادة
أن النبي ﷺ كان لا يتطير من شيء وكان إذا بعث عاملا سأل عن اسمه فإذا أعجبه اسمه فرح به ورئي بشر ذلك في وجهه وإن كره اسمه رئي كراهية ذلك في وجهه وإذا دخل قرية سأل عن اسمها فإن أعجبه اسمها فرح ورئي بشر ذلك في وجهه وإن كره اسمها رئي كراهية ذلك في وجهه
Its isnad is daif. Ahmad narrated it: 5/347, and Nasai in Kubra, no. 8822, from the hadith of Hisham bin Abu Abdullah Dastawai, with this wording. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1430, and it has daif corroborating narrations. The hadith of Ibn Majah, no. 3536, serves in its place.Qatada narrated with "an" (an indirect form of transmission).
