Hudhayfah was in al-Madain when he asked for water. A local landowner brought him a silver vessel, and he threw it at him, saying, "I only threw it at him because I had forbidden him from this and he did not stop. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade silk and brocade, and drinking from vessels of gold and silver. He said, 'They are for them in this world, and for you in the Hereafter.'"
حدثنا حفص بن عمر حدثنا شعبة عن الحكم
كان حذيفة بالمدائن فاستسقى فأتاه دهقان بإناء من فضة فرماه به وقال إني لم أرمه به إلا أني قد نهيته فلم ينته وإن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن الحرير والديباج وعن الشرب في آنية الذهب والفضة وقال هي لهم في الدنيا ولكم في الآخرة
