The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about bitu, and he said, "Every drink that intoxicates is forbidden."
حدثنا عبد الله بن مسلمة القعنبي عن مالك عن ابن شهاب عن أبي سلمة
سئل رسول الله ﷺ عن البتع فقال كل شراب أسكر فهو حرام
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Drinks, chapter "Wine from Honey, which is called al-Bitaa," hadith no. 5585, and Muslim in the Book of Drinks, chapter "Explaining that every intoxicant is wine and every wine is forbidden," hadith no. 2001, both from the hadith of Malik through this same chain, and it is found in the Muwatta (narrated by Yahya) 2/845.
