Zayd bin Thabit said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me, so I learned the writing of the Jews for him. He said, 'By Allah, I do not trust the Jews with my correspondence.' So I learned it, and not even half a month passed before I had mastered it. I used to write for him when he wrote to them, and read to him when they wrote to him."
حدثنا أحمد بن يونس حدثنا ابن أبي الزناد عن أبيه عن خارجة يعني ابن
قال قال زيد بن ثابت أمرني رسول الله ﷺ فتعلمت له كتاب يهود وقال إني والله ما آمن يهود على كتابي فتعلمته فلم يمر بي إلا نصف شهر حتى حذقته فكنت أكتب له إذا كتب وأقرأ له إذا كتب إليه
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Tirmidhi reported it in the Book of Seeking Permission, chapter on what has been said regarding learning Syriac, hadith no. 2715, from the hadith of Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Zinad, with this wording, and he said, hasan sahih. Bukhari mentioned it with a suspended chain, hadith no. 7195.
