The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled regarding the floodwater of Mahzur that it should be held back until it reaches the ankles, then the upper land releases it to the lower land.
حدثنا أحمد بن عبدة حدثنا المغيرة بن عبد الرحمن حدثني أبي عبد الرحمن بن الحارث
أن رسول الله ﷺ قضى في السيل المهزور أن يمسك حتى يبلغ الكعبين ثم يرسل الأعلى على الأسفل
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Ibn Majah reported it in the chapters on Mortgages, in the chapter on drinking from watercourses and the amount of water to be withheld, hadith no. 2482, from Ahmad bin Abdah, with the same wording.
