A woman reported,

I went in to see Umm Salama, and a woman from Quraysh asked her about praying in a garment worn during menstruation.Umm Salama said, "We used to menstruate during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. One of us would remain in her menstrual state for the duration of her period, then purify herself. She would then examine the garment she had been wearing. If any blood had touched it, we would wash it and pray in it, but if nothing had touched it, we would leave it and that did not prevent us from praying in it.As for the woman whose hair was braided, one of us would have her hair braided, and when she performed the ritual bath she would not undo it. Instead, she would pour three handfuls of water over her head, and when she saw the moisture reach the roots of her hair, she would rub it in, then pour water over the rest of her body."
