The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is not permissible for a man to give a gift or grant a present and then take it back, except for a father with regard to what he gives his child. The likeness of one who gives a gift and then takes it back is like a dog that eats until it is full, then vomits, and then returns to its vomit."
[Its isnad is sahih] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Sales, chapter on the dislike of taking back a gift, hadith no. 1299, from the hadith of Husayn Muallim, with this wording, and he said, hasan sahih. Nasai also transmitted it, hadith no. 3720, as did Ibn Majah, hadith no. 2377. Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, hadith no. 994, as did Hakim, 2/46, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
