I used to keep accounts of the expenditures for the orphans under the guardianship of a certain man. They cheated him out of a thousand dirhams, and he paid that amount to them. Later, I recovered for him from their property twice that sum.I said to him, "Shall I take back the thousand they took from you?"He replied, "No. My father told me that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Return the trust to the one who entrusted you, and do not betray the one who betrayed you.'"
