He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, in the year of the conquest while he was in Makkah, "Allah has forbidden the sale of wine, carrion, swine, and idols."Someone asked, "Messenger of Allah, what do you say about the fat of carrion? Ships are caulked with it, hides are treated with it, and people use it to fuel their lamps."He replied, "No, it is forbidden."Then, at that point, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah destroy the Jews. When Allah forbade them the fat of such animals, they melted it down, then sold it and consumed the proceeds."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا أبو عاصم عن عبد الحميد بن جعفر عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب قال كتب إلي عطاء عن جابر نحوه لم يقل هو حرام
Bukhari narrated it as a suspended report, and Muslim narrated it, both from the hadith of Abu Asim, as mentioned. See the previous hadith.
