Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Jabir reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not pray over a man who died owing a debt. A body was once brought to him, and he asked, "Does he owe any debt?"They said, "Yes, two dinars."He said, "Pray over your companion yourselves."Abu Qatada Ansari said, "The two dinars are mine to pay, Messenger of Allah."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed over him. Later, when Allah granted victory and wealth to His Messenger ﷺ, he said, "I am closer to every believer than his own self. Whoever leaves behind a debt, its settlement falls to me, and whoever leaves behind property, it goes to his heirs."He said that he once bought a calf from a caravan without having its price with him. He made a profit on it and sold it, then gave the profit in charity to the widows of Banu Abdul-Muttalib, and he said, "After this I will never buy anything unless I have its price in hand."

حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة وقتيبة بن سعيد عن شريك عن سماك عن عكرمة رفعه قال عثمان وحدثنا وكيع عن شريك عن سماك عن عكرمة عن ابن عباس عن النبي ﷺ مثله قال اشترى من عير تبيعا وليس عنده ثمنه فأربح فيه فباعه فتصدق بالربح على أرامل بني عبد المطلب وقال لا أشتري بعدها شيئا إلا وعندي ثمنه
