Imran bin Husayn reported,

Adba belonged to a man from the tribe of Banu Aqeel, and she was among the foremost racing camels of the pilgrims. The man was taken captive and brought to the Prophet ﷺ while bound in fetters. The Prophet ﷺ was riding a donkey covered with a velvet cloth. The man said, "Muhammad, on what grounds are you seizing me and seizing the foremost camel of the pilgrims?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "We are seizing you for the offense of your allies, Thakeef."Thakeef had taken captive two of the Prophet's ﷺ companions. Among what the man said was, "I am a Muslim," or he said, "I have already accepted Islam."When the Prophet ﷺ moved on, Abu Dawud said, "I understood this part from Muhammad bin Isa," the man called out to him, "Muhammad, Muhammad."The Prophet ﷺ was merciful and gentle, so he returned to him and asked, "What is your situation?"The man said, "I am a Muslim."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Had you said this when you were still in control of your own affair, you would have attained complete success."Abu Dawud said, "Then I returned to the narration of Sulayman."The man said, "Muhammad, I am hungry, so feed me. I am thirsty, so give me drink."The Prophet ﷺ said, "This is your need," or he said, "This is his need."The man was later ransomed in exchange for the two captives. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept Adba for his own mount. Then the polytheists raided the grazing herds of Madinah and took Adba, along with capturing a Muslim woman. At night they would rest their camels in their courtyards. One night they all fell asleep, and the woman got up. She did not place her hand on any camel without it grunting, until she came to Adba. She came upon a docile, well-trained camel, mounted her, and then vowed to Allah that if He delivered her safely, she would slaughter the camel. When she arrived in Madinah, the people recognized the camel as the Prophet's ﷺ camel. The Prophet ﷺ was informed, and he sent for her. She was brought, and he was told of her vow. He said, "What a wretched recompense you have given her," or "she has given her. If Allah delivered her on its back, she would slaughter it. There is no fulfillment of a vow involving disobedience to Allah, nor in what the son of Adam does not own."
