A man was brought to the Prophet ﷺ who had been thrown by his mount and killed while he was in a state of ritual consecration for pilgrimage. The Prophet said, "Shroud him in his two garments, wash him with water and lotus leaves, and do not cover his head, for Allah will raise him on the Day of Resurrection calling out the pilgrim's cry."Abu Dawud said, "I heard Ahmad bin Hanbal say about this hadith that it contains five practices of the sunnah. 'Shroud him in his two garments,' meaning the deceased is shrouded in two garments. 'Wash him with water and lotus leaves,' meaning that lotus leaves are used in every washing. 'Do not cover his head.' Do not bring perfume near him. And the shroud is taken from the whole of the estate."He also said, "And shroud him in two garments."
