We had carried the slain on the day of Uhud to bury them when the Prophet's ﷺ caller came and announced, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commands you to bury the slain in the places where they fell." So we returned them.
حدثنا محمد بن كثير أخبرنا سفيان عن الأسود بن قيس عن نبيح
كنا حملنا القتلى يوم أحد لندفنهم فجاء منادي النبي ﷺ فقال إن رسول الله ﷺ يأمركم أن تدفنوا القتلى في مضاجعهم فرددناهم
Sourcing, sahih. Ibn Majah narrated it in the chapter on funerals, the section on what has been said about praying over martyrs and burying them, hadith no. 1516, from the hadith of Sufyan through this chain. Nasai also narrated it, hadith no. 2007, as did Tirmidhi, hadith no. 1717, who said, "hasan sahih." Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, hadith no. 553, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith nos. 774 and 775.
