During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a woman in postnatal bleeding would remain in seclusion for forty days or forty nights after giving birth, and we used to apply wars to our faces, meaning to treat the dark blemishes.
[Hasan] Narrated by Tirmidhi, in the book of Purification, chapter on how long a woman bleeding after childbirth should wait, and by Ibn Majah, no. 648, from the hadith of Ali bin Abdul-Ala, no. 139, with this wording. Tirmidhi said, "Rare." Hakim graded it sahih in 1/175, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Ibn Abbas said something similar, and Bayhaqi narrated it in 1/341 with a sahih chain going back to him, and the consensus supports it.
