He came as a delegate to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him to grant him the salt. Ibn al-Mutawakkil said, the salt that was in Marib. So he granted it to him. When the man turned to leave, a man in the gathering said, "Do you realize what you have just granted him? You have granted him water that never runs dry."So he took it back from him.He also asked him about what may be designated as a protected reserve from the arak trees. He replied, "Whatever the hooves cannot reach."Ibn al-Mutawakkil said, "The hooves of the camels."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد الثقفي ومحمد بن المتوكل العسقلاني المعنى واحد أن محمد بن يحيى بن قيس المأربي حدثهم أخبرني أبي عن ثمامة بن شراحيل عن سمي بن قيس عن شمير قال ابن المتوكل ابن عبد المدان
أنه وفد إلى رسول الله ﷺ فاستقطعه الملح قال ابن المتوكل الذي بمأرب فقطعه له فلما أن ولى قال رجل من المجلس أتدري ما قطعت له إنما قطعت له الماء العد قال فانتزع منه قال وسأله عما يحمى من الأراك قال ما لم تنله خفاف وقال ابن المتوكل أخفاف الإبل
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Tirmidhi transmitted it, Chapters on Rulings, chapter on what has been mentioned regarding land grants, no. 1380, from Qutayba with this wording, and he said, hasan gharib, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1140, 1142, and its narrators are among those from whom hasan narrations are accepted.
