When the delegation of Thakeef came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he lodged them in the mosque so that their hearts would be softened. They stipulated that they should not be mustered for military service, nor have their wealth tithed, nor be required to bow in prayer.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "You may be exempted from being mustered and from having your wealth tithed, but there is no good in a religion that has no bowing in it."
حدثنا أحمد بن علي بن سويد يعني ابن منجوف حدثنا أبو داود عن حماد بن سلمة عن حميد عن الحسن
أن وفد ثقيف لما قدموا على رسول الله ﷺ أنزلهم المسجد ليكون أرق لقلوبهم فاشترطوا عليه أن لا يحشروا ولا يعشروا ولا يجبوا فقال رسول الله ﷺ لكم أن لا تحشروا ولا تعشروا ولا خير في دين ليس فيه ركوع
[Its chain is daif] It was recorded by Ibn Khuzayma, no. 1328, from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, with this wording. It is also found in Musnad Abu Dawud Tayalisi, no. 939, with slight variation, and Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, no. 373. Humayd Tawil and Hasan Basri are both mudallis narrators, and they narrated using ambiguous transmission wording (an).
