When Allah granted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the conquest of Khaybar, he divided it into thirty-six shares, grouping them together. He set aside half for the Muslims, eighteen shares, with each share comprising a hundred. The Prophet ﷺ was among them, taking one share like that of any one of them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also set aside eighteen shares, the other half, for the contingencies that might befall him and for the affairs of the Muslims that might arise. That portion consisted of al-Watih, al-Kutaybah, al-Sallam, and their dependencies. When the properties came into the hands of the Prophet ﷺ and the Muslims, they had no laborers sufficient to work them, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ summoned the Jews and made an agreement with them to cultivate the land.
[Hasan] See the previous hadith. Bayhaqi also narrated it in Dalail, 4/235, from the hadith of Abu Dawud, through him.
