Saeed bin Musayab informed me that Jubayr bin Mutim told him that he and Uthman bin Affan came to speak with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding how he had distributed the fifth among the clans of Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib.Jubayr said, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah, you allotted shares to our brothers, Banu Muttalib, and gave us nothing, even though our kinship to you and theirs is one and the same.'"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib are but one."Jubayr said, "He did not allot anything from that fifth to Banu Abd Shams or to Banu Nawfal, the way he allotted shares to Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib."He said, "Abu Bakr used to distribute the fifth in the same manner as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed it, except that he did not give the close relatives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what the Prophet ﷺ used to give them. Umar bin Khattab, however, did give them their share from it, and so did Uthman after him."
حدثنا عبيد الله بن عمر بن ميسرة حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي عن عبد الله بن المبارك عن يونس بن يزيد
أخبرني سعيد بن المسيب أخبرني جبير بن مطعم أنه جاء هو وعثمان بن عفان يكلمان رسول الله ﷺ فيما قسم من الخمس بين بني هاشم وبني المطلب فقلت يا رسول الله قسمت لإخواننا بني المطلب ولم تعطنا شيئا وقرابتنا وقرابتهم منك واحدة فقال النبي ﷺ إنما بنو هاشم وبنو المطلب شيء واحد قال جبير ولم يقسم لبني عبد شمس ولا لبني نوفل من ذلك الخمس كما قسم لبني هاشم وبني المطلب قال وكان أبو بكر يقسم الخمس نحو قسم رسول الله ﷺ غير أنه لم يكن يعطي قربى رسول الله ﷺ ما كان النبي ﷺ يعطيهم قال وكان عمر بن الخطاب يعطيهم منه وعثمان بعده
