The Messenger of Allah ﷺ patted him on the shoulder and said to him, "You have succeeded, Qudaym, if you die without having been a commander, a scribe, or a chief."
حدثنا عمرو بن عثمان حدثنا محمد بن حرب عن أبي سلمة سليمان بن سليم عن يحيى بن جابر عن صالح بن يحيى بن المقدام
أن رسول الله ﷺ ضرب على منكبه ثم قال له أفلحت يا قديم إن مت ولم تكن أميرا ولا كاتبا ولا عريفا
[Its isnad is daif] Ahmad (4/133) and Bayhaqi (6/361) narrated it from the hadith of Salih bin Yahya, from him, and he is weak (per Taqreeb).Hadith, "So let him not be an overseer, nor a policeman, nor a tax collector, nor a treasurer," is hasan, narrated by Abu Yaala, no. 1115, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1558.
