The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever leaves behind dependents, they are my responsibility." And sometimes he said, "They are the responsibility of Allah and His Messenger. Whoever leaves behind wealth, it goes to his heirs. I am the heir of one who has no heir. I pay his blood-money and inherit from him. The maternal uncle is the heir of one who has no heir. He pays his blood-money and inherits from him."
[Hasan]. Ibn Majah reported it in the Book of Inheritance, Chapter on Relatives, hadith: 2738, from the hadith of Shubah with this chain. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith: 1225, as did Ibn Jarud, hadith: 965, and Hakim, according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, 4:344, though Dhahabi disputed this. It has a corroborating narration in Ibn Hibban, hadith: 1226, with a hasan chain.
