Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until we came to a woman of the Ansar in al-Aswaq. The woman brought her two daughters and said, "Messenger of Allah, these are the two daughters of Thabit bin Qays, who was killed fighting alongside you at the Battle of Uhud. Their uncle has seized all of their wealth and inheritance, leaving them nothing. He took everything they had. What do you say about this, Messenger of Allah? By Allah, they will never be able to marry without any wealth of their own."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Allah will decide in this matter."Then the surah of an-Nisa was revealed, "Allah instructs you concerning your children" [Nisa 4:11].The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Bring the woman and her companion to me." He said to their uncle, "Give the two daughters two-thirds, give their mother one-eighth, and what remains is yours."
