A man said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Messenger of Allah, which charity is best?"He replied, "That you give in charity while you are healthy and stingy, hoping for long life and fearing poverty. Do not delay until your soul reaches your throat, then say, 'So much goes to so-and-so, and so much to so-and-so,' when it has already become the property of someone else."
حدثنا مسدد حدثنا عبد الواحد بن زياد حدثنا عمارة بن القعقاع عن أبي زرعة بن عمرو بن جرير
قال رجل للنبي ﷺ يا رسول الله أي الصدقة أفضل قال أن تصدق وأنت صحيح حريص تأمل البقاء وتخشى الفقر ولا تمهل حتى إذا بلغت الحلقوم قلت لفلان كذا ولفلان كذا وقد كان لفلان
Bukhari related it, Zakat, chapter on the merit of charity given by a miserly but healthy person, no. 1419, and Muslim, Zakat, chapter clarifying that the best charity is that given by a healthy but miserly person, no. 1032, from the hadith of Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad, with this chain.
