The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every child is held in pledge by his aqiqah, which is to be slaughtered for him on the seventh day, when his head is shaved and he is given a name."
حدثنا ابن المثنى حدثنا ابن أبي عدي عن سعيد عن قتادة عن الحسن
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال كل غلام رهينة بعقيقته تذبح عنه يوم سابعه ويحلق ويسمى
[Sahih] Ibn Majah reported it in Dhabaih, chapter on Aqiqah, no. 3165, and Nasai, no. 4225, from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba, with this wording. Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, no. 910, as did Hakim, 4/237, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Shuba also narrated it from Qatada with this wording, as found in Ibn Jarud.
