I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, we will face the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives. Can we slaughter with sharp stones from Marwa or splinters of wood?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Make it swift, or hasten the slaughter. Whatever causes the blood to flow, and over which the name of Allah has been mentioned, you may eat, so long as it is not done with a tooth or a claw. I will tell you why. As for the tooth, it is a bone, and as for the claw, it is the knife of the Abyssinians."Some of the people rushed ahead and got hold of war booty, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at the rear. They set up cooking pots, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by the pots and ordered them to be turned over. He then divided the spoils among them, treating one camel as equal to ten sheep.A camel from the people's herd bolted away, and they had no horses with them, so a man shot it with an arrow and Allah brought it to a halt. The Prophet ﷺ said, "These beasts have wild instincts like wild animals, so whichever of them behaves this way, do the same with it."

Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Sacrifices, Chapter on the permissibility of slaughtering with anything that causes blood to flow, and so on, hadith no. 1968, from the hadith of Abaya bin Rifa, with the same content.
