Ali bin Abu Talib reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to carefully inspect the eyes and ears, and not to sacrifice an animal that is one-eyed, nor one with the front of its ear cut off, nor one with the back of its ear cut off, nor one with a pierced ear, nor one with a slit ear.Zuhayr said, I asked Ubayy Ishaq, "Did he mention an animal with a broken horn?"He replied, "No."I asked, "What is muqabalah?"He said, "The tip of the ear is cut off."I asked, "What is mudabarah?"He said, "The back of the ear is cut off."I asked, "What is sharqa?"He said, "The ear is slit."I asked, "What is kharqa?"He said, "Its ear is pierced as a mark of identification."

عن علي قال

أمرنا رسول الله ﷺ أن نستشرف العين والأذنين ولا نضحي بعوراء ولا مقابلة ولا مدابرة ولا خرقاء ولا شرقاء قال زهير فقلت لأبي إسحق أذكر عضباء قال لا قلت فما المقابلة قال يقطع طرف الأذن قلت فما المدابرة قال يقطع من مؤخر الأذن قلت فما الشرقاء قال تشق الأذن قلت فما الخرقاء قال تخرق أذنها للسمة
