I was present at Khaybar with my masters, who spoke to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on my behalf. He ordered that I be given a sword, and I found myself dragging it along the ground. He was then informed that I was a slave, so he ordered that I be given some odds and ends from the household goods instead.
حدثنا أحمد بن حنبل حدثنا بشر يعني ابن المفضل عن محمد بن زيد قال
شهدت خيبر مع سادتي فكلموا في رسول الله ﷺ فأمر بي فقلدت سيفا فإذا أنا أجره فأخبر أني مملوك فأمر لي بشيء من خرثي المتاع
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions, chapter, "Is a share given to the slave," hadith 1557, from the hadith of Bishr bin Mufaddal by this route, and he said, hasan sahih. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith 1669, as did Hakim, 2/131, and Dhahabi concurred with him. It is also found in Musnad Imam Ahmad, 5/223.
