Saeed bin al-As reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched Abban bin Saeed bin al-As at the head of a military expedition from Medina toward Najd. Abban and his companions came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Khaybar after he had conquered it, with the girths of their horses still made of palm fiber.Abban said, "Allot us a share, Messenger of Allah."Abu Hurairah said, "I said, 'Do not allot them a share, Messenger of Allah.'"Abban said, "You are the one to say this, you little rock badger come tumbling down on us from the top of a Dal tree?"The Prophet ﷺ said, "Sit down, Abban."And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not allot them a share.
حدثنا سعيد بن منصور قال حدثنا إسمعيل بن عياش عن محمد بن الوليد الزبيدي عن الزهري أن عنبسة بن سعيد أخبره أنه سمع
سعيد بن العاص أن رسول الله ﷺ بعث أبان بن سعيد بن العاص على سرية من المدينة قبل نجد فقدم أبان بن سعيد وأصحابه على رسول الله ﷺ بخيبر بعد أن فتحها وإن حزم خيلهم ليف فقال أبان اقسم لنا يا رسول الله فقال أبو هريرة فقلت لا تقسم لهم يا رسول الله فقال أبان أنت بها يا وبر تحدر علينا من رأس ضال فقال النبي ﷺ اجلس يا أبان ولم يقسم لهم رسول الله ﷺ
[Sahih] See the following hadith. Bayhaqi narrated it, 6/334, from the hadith of Abu Dawud through him. It is also found in Sunan Saeed bin Mansur, no. 2793, and Bukhari mentioned it as a suspended report, no. 4238. Ismail bin Ayyash explicitly stated that he heard it directly, and Abdullah bin Salim corroborated him.
