Thabit reported,

Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called his companions to action, and they set out to Badr. There they came upon the water-carriers of Quraysh, among whom was a black slave belonging to the family of Hajjaj. The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seized him and began questioning him."Where is Abu Sufyan?" they asked.He replied, "By Allah, I know nothing of his affair. But here is Quraysh who has come, and among them are Abu Jahl, Utba and Shayba the sons of Rabia, and Umaya bin Khalaf."When he told them this, they would beat him, and he would cry out, "Let me be, let me be, and I will tell you!" When they released him, he would say again, "By Allah, I have no knowledge of Abu Sufyan. But here is Quraysh advancing, and among them are Abu Jahl, Utba and Shayba the sons of Rabia, and Umaya bin Khalaf. They have come."The Prophet ﷺ was praying and could hear all of this. When he finished his prayer, he said, "By the One in whose hand my soul rests, you beat him when he tells you the truth, and you let him go when he lies to you. This is Quraysh, who has indeed come to protect Abu Sufyan."Anas said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "This is where so-and-so will fall tomorrow," and he placed his hand on the ground. "And this is where so-and-so will fall tomorrow," and he placed his hand on the ground. "And this is where so-and-so will fall tomorrow," and he placed his hand on the ground.Anas said, "By the One in whose hand my soul rests, not one of them fell beyond the spot where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had placed his hand." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then gave orders concerning them, and they were taken by their feet, dragged, and cast into the well of Badr.

عن أنس أن رسول الله ﷺ ندب أصحابه فانطلقوا إلى بدر فإذا هم بروايا قريش فيها عبد أسود لبني الحجاج فأخذه أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ فجعلوا يسألونه أين أبو سفيان فيقول والله مالي بشيء من أمره علم ولكن هذه قريش قد جاءت فيهم أبو جهل وعتبة وشيبة ابنا ربيعة وأمية بن خلف فإذا قال لهم ذلك ضربوه فيقول دعوني دعوني أخبركم فإذا تركوه قال والله مالي بأبي سفيان من علم ولكن هذه قريش قد أقبلت فيهم أبو جهل وعتبة وشيبة ابنا ربيعة وأمية بن خلف قد أقبلوا والنبي ﷺ يصلي وهو يسمع ذلك فلما انصرف قال والذي نفسي بيده إنكم لتضربونه إذا صدقكم وتدعونه إذا كذبكم هذه قريش قد أقبلت لتمنع أبا سفيان قال أنس قال رسول الله ﷺ هذا مصرع فلان غدا ووضع يده على الأرض وهذا مصرع فلان غدا ووضع يده على الأرض وهذا مصرع فلان غدا ووضع يده على الأرض فقال والذي نفسي بيده ما جاوز أحد منهم عن موضع يد رسول الله ﷺ فأمر بهم رسول الله ﷺ فأخذ بأرجلهم فسحبوا فألقوا في قليب بدر
