I witnessed that whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not begin fighting at the start of the day, he would delay the battle until the sun had passed its zenith, the winds began to blow, and victory descended.

شهدت رسول الله ﷺ إذا لم يقاتل من أول النهار أخر القتال حتى تزول الشمس وتهب الرياح وينزل النصر
Its isnad is sahih. Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions, in the chapter on what has been said about the hour in which fighting is preferred, hadith 1613, from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama with this chain, and he said, hasan sahih. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (al-Ihsan): 4737, as did Hakim, according to the standard of Muslim: 2/116, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
