The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a military expedition to Khatham. Some of the people there sought protection by prostrating themselves, but they were quickly killed. When news of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, he ordered that half of the blood-money be paid for them, and he said, "I am free of responsibility for any Muslim who lives among the polytheists."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, why is that?"He replied, "Their fires should not be visible to one another."
